Kingston Engineering College (“we”, “our”, “the College”) respects your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, exactly what information this website handles, how the forms and the AI assistant work, what is stored in your browser, and how to reach us. It is written to match how this site actually functions — not a generic template.

The short version: This website uses no advertising cookies and no third-party analytics trackers. Contact and admission forms store your entry only in your own browser (localStorage) — on this site they are not emailed or sent to a server automatically. The AI assistant lets you ask questions; your conversation stays in your browser, and only your question text is sent onward (via our secure server) when you ask the AI for an answer.

1. Information you give us directly (website forms)

The site has enquiry, contact, and admission application forms. Depending on the form, you may enter:

Identity & contact: full name, email address, phone number.
Admission details: date of birth, gender, school name, marks, community, category, and the course you are interested in.
Your message: the subject and free-text message you write to us.

What happens to it: On this website, submitting a form saves your entry to your own browser's local storage (under keys beginning with kec_submission_) and shows a confirmation. This website does not email it or send it to a database by itself. To share your details with the College, please use the official contact channels on our Contact page. Because the data lives only in your browser, you can delete it at any time by clearing your browser's site data.

2. The AI Assistant

Our AI assistant answers questions about the College. Here is exactly how it handles your input:

Search runs locally. Your question is matched against the College's knowledge base in your own browser (a local vector search). No question needs to leave your device for this step.
AI-written answers (optional). When you ask for a fuller answer, only the text of your question (and the matching knowledge-base extracts used to answer it) is sent, through our secure server-side proxy, to our AI provider (OpenRouter) to generate a reply. We do not send your name, email, phone, or any account details to the AI provider.
Kept in your browser. Your conversation history is stored in your browser's local storage (kec_chat_fullpage, kec_chat_widget, kec_openrouter_cache, kec_openrouter_metrics) so the chat persists and is faster. It is not stored on our servers.

Please avoid typing sensitive personal information (passwords, financial details, ID numbers) into the assistant. To clear the chat and cached answers, use the assistant's clear option or clear your browser's site data.

3. Browser storage and cookies

This website uses your browser's local storage for the features above (saved form entries and the AI chat). We do not set tracking or advertising cookies, and we do not run third-party analytics such as Google Analytics. The following storage keys may be created on your device:

kec_submission_* — your enquiry / contact / application form entries.
kec_chat_fullpage, kec_chat_widget — AI assistant conversation history.
kec_openrouter_cache, kec_openrouter_metrics — cached AI answers and usage counters.
kec_rag_analytics — anonymous, on-device search-quality counters for the assistant.

4. Third-party services we load

To display this site, your browser loads resources (fonts, icons, libraries, and the AI model files) from a few content-delivery networks. When it does, those services receive the standard, unavoidable technical details every web request carries (your IP address and browser type) simply to deliver the files:

Google Fonts, cdnjs (Cloudflare), jsDelivr, and unpkg — fonts, icons, and UI libraries.
OpenRouter — only when you ask the AI assistant for an answer (your question text), via our secure server.
An external link to our YouTube channel is provided as a convenience; visiting it is subject to Google's / YouTube's own privacy policy.

5. How long we keep information

Because form entries and chat history live in your browser on your device, you control how long they remain. Anything you send to us through official contact channels (for example, an email you write to us) is kept only as long as needed to respond to you and meet the College's record-keeping and legal obligations.

6. Your choices and rights

Delete your data: clear this site's data in your browser settings to remove saved forms and chat history.
Ask us: contact the College to ask what information we hold about you, to correct it, or to request its deletion.
Use without AI: you can browse the entire site and use every form without ever using the AI assistant.

7. Children's privacy

This website is intended for prospective students, parents, and the general public. It is not directed at children under 13. Admission details for minors should be provided by a parent or guardian.

8. Security

The AI assistant communicates with our server over HTTPS, and the AI API key is held only on our servers — never in the page, so it cannot be copied from the page source. As with any website, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, but we take reasonable care to protect the information you share with us.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top shows the current version.
